The flavours are the same as an enriched pizza alla marinara while the dish is traditionally free of dairy and egg. In most recipes a small amount of wheat flour is added but it can easily be omitted to make it wheat and gluten free. Some people find anchovies too fishy, if that includes you then you can either omit them altogether or cook them into the sauce by adding them at the same time as the onions when making the tomato sauce.
