The Stir-Fry from Hell
This recipe was originally inspired by a dish from Big Bowl. It's one of Phil's favorites: he'd order it every time his work took him to the Chicago area. So he commissioned me to figure out a copycat recipe. Now he insists that I've ruined Big Bowl for him: my dish is better, he says, so he won't ever order it out again! But it didn't start out that way. The first time I tried to make this, I figured that habaneros could stand in for what I thought were Scotch bonnet peppers (turns out, they were Fresno chiles!). The result was delicious, but straight out of a volcano. Here is my tamed-down recipe:
