This is a very simple recipe for apple crisp. You will often find recipes for apple crisp call for apples that have been chopped into small cubes. That’s fine, but we really love tender apples instead of softened apples. So, we actually keep the apples in larger slices. Feel free to cut the apples smaller if that is what you prefer. When making our apple crisp with oats, we usually use Granny Smith apples. They’re tart and firm, but you could certainly use another variety – Braeburn and McIntosh are great. In fact, you could even add some extra texture and try using two varieties of apples or go completely different and add a handful of blackberries, raisins or cranberries. They would all be excellent.
