If you can afford it, I strongly suggest San Marzano??tomatoes for this. They have a wonderful “Italian” flavor. Regular canned tomatoes are just as good but this is one area where I will splurge when I can. Or, if you prefer a smoother sauce, use a 28oz can of plain tomato sauce.
