The Grasshopper cocktail that became popular in the 50’s and 60’s and named for its green color, is a shaken blend of Crème de menthe, Crème de cacao and heavy cream. This brilliant concoction of chocolate and mint flavors and has been reborn in a cupcake. Sweet German Chocolate replaces the Crème de cacao, but the classic mint flavor and green color comes from Crème de menthe in both the cake and the Swiss Meringue Buttercream. And just to carry the grasshopper theme one step further, I’ve sprinkled some chopped Andes Crème de Menthe Chocolates on the tops.
