The cumin and green chilies give this soup it's flavor distinctive flavor, and it's a welcome change from the usual chili fare.  My husband (who is not a bean person) usually has seconds!  It's definitely not as thick as traditional chili, so if you skip the blending step it will be more like a soup--but still delicious.
