This is quite similar to a Filipino dessert called Maruya whose recipe uses saba, a kind of banana found in the Philippines.  It was a common dessert when I was growing up. For some reason most Filipino snacks were dessert-like. These were sold usually during the afternoon in my neighborhood. I have no idea why. :) Did this happen only in my hometown? Regular
