As always the quality of what you use is the main determining factor in the finished product. I like Boars Head Natural Ham. You can make do with canned pineapple but it won't be nearly as good. I used onion rolls from the bakery section, like Kaiser rolls, made with minced onion in them and on top. You can also find them in the bread aisle of the grocery store.
