I froze it which made it more of an ice cream cake. If you use ice cream, you should also freeze instead of using the fridge. For the M&M’s I picked over the largest bag I could find at the grocery store and had a perfect amount for the cookies, and then a sprinkling on top of the cake. I used a 4x7 loaf pan and this makes enough for two crusts. You can also use a pie plate. If you’re using super crunchy cookies like Chips Ahoy, dip in milk before layering to help them soften.
